Accessible safety without cost:

Nomophobia defines the fear of being without a mobile phone, as research shows that the inability to use your phone can cause anxiety triggers like increased heart rate and blood pressure. Losing phone battery when in a crucial situation carries high risk. Current battery quality of phones especially affects marginalised user groups like those of low income, or people depending on their phone for accessibility purposes. “SafeMode” is a cost-free solution for everyday safety that optimise current device, to challenge the consumer’s force of buying additional technology.

Embracing difference:

Where differences meet in conversation, contrast can create connection. Design is able to create shared spaces and encourage dialogue with the exchange of diverse ideas. I was motivated by the idea of democratic exchange being able to create connection through dialogue, rather than division. “Complimentary Dialogue” is a contemporary publication layout using strong visual impact to create storytelling through the interplay of warm and cool, demonstrating how complementary values can enhance and embrace each other.

Easing uncertainty:

By using user research to discover user’s hidden needs, observation and conversation revealed the discomfort of decision-making. Making a decision can be overwhelming. Whether it’s a major life change, or an everyday dilemma, the fear of the unknown creates the need of clarity, support and sense of control. With design, one can transform a space of fear, to a space of comfort. “Decision Tarot” is an app using AI tool, designed to help explore user decision-making journey and asking relevant questions to provide personalised support.

Nostalgia and identity:

The urge to explore is deeply human. Re-discovering our identity, and reminiscing on how nostalgia and memories shapes us, is what motivated Lars Saabye Christensen to write “Beatles”. The coming-of-age novel follows four teenage boys in the 60th in Oslo, the capital of Norway. Growing up in Oslo, the story connects to own memories and cultural reference of place and belonging. The design captures the story of the fragile transition from adolescence to adulthood, and explores friendship, love, identity and social change. The design is hand-drawn and redrawn with digital tools.

Designing for belonging:

Anthropomorphism has the ability to give animal characters recognisable human behaviours. Using the design of animals in human contexts, the project aims to connect to the community of university students by reflecting shared rituals and situations that both emphasise with students, and brings them together. Having the personal experience of being a student, the project wish to create something that brings a sense of belonging. Campus Creators is a collection of illustrated stickers inspired by relatable university habits and personalities embodied as playful animal characters and humorous phrases
