SafeMode
Accessible safety without cost:
Nomophobia defines the fear of being without a mobile phone, as research shows that the inability to use your phone can cause anxiety triggers like increased heart rate and blood pressure. Losing phone battery when in a crucial situation carries high risk. Current battery quality of phones especially affects marginalised user groups like those of low income, or people depending on their phone for accessibility purposes. “SafeMode” is a cost-free solution for everyday safety that optimise current device, to challenge the consumer’s force of buying additional technology.
The Problem:
In late 2017 Apple confirmed that software updates on iPhone would reduce phone performance in order to prevent sudden phone shutdowns. By stating they did not intent to harm users, they still failed to inform and be transparent to their consumers. Due to older phones having decreased battery performance, I want to take account of the cost and pressure of buying a new device, with an alternative solution that can optimise current device battery with no additional purchase.
The Solution:
User’s needs become interrupted when met with the stress of low battery. A solution for battery performance has the ability to improve user experience by lowering stress and create comfort and safety. “SafeMode” is a management app designed to transform battery saving from a passive warning into an context-aware tool. Functions of the app includes battery management and insights, access to different saving modes, customisation, and accessibility priority settings.
